The very first BEAT THE CHAMPION Tournament will take place at Theatr John Ambrose on Saturday 16th of September.
Our first Champion will be decided on the night via a Round Robin competition. Four Wrestlers will compete in two separate singles matches and the winners of those preliminary matches will go on to face each other in a final bout. The winner of the final bout will be declared the RUTHIN CHAMPION and will go on to defend their title at the next Wrestling Event at Ruthin on Saturday October 28th.
All BEAT THE CHAMPION bouts will be conducted under a 'rounds' system and the winner will be decided by winning 2 falls to a finish. This means a Wrestler must gain a combination of any 2 pinfalls, 2 submissions or 1 knockout to be declared the winner.
The CHAMPION, in addition to a normal winners purse, will gain £200 to be stored in a separate BEAT THE CHAMPION PURSE. After every successful defense of the BEAT THE CHAMPION title, and additional £200 will be added to the purse. Once a CHAMPION has defeated 5 consecutive opponents without losing or drawing, they may then claim the purse of £1000. However, the CHAMPION may decide to gamble the purse on a final 6th opponent if they wish and the purse will be worth £2000!
Once a purse has been claimed, the tournament starts fresh the following month.
However, if the CHAMPION is beaten by an opponent the total sum of the purse is lost and the opponent becomes the new CHAMPION. The new CHAMPION will then begin a new run with a fresh purse starting at £200 and 1 win.
