Our first success of the new season comes from the triumphant inaugural win from Manchester's "SLIM" JIM BRENNAN. In a hard fought Round Robin competition in Ruthin on September 16th BRENNAN saw away three other competitors to become the first BEAT THE CHAMPION winner in Ruthin.
In the picture below at the end of the evening is "SLIM" JIM BRENNAN meeting the MAYOR OF RUTHIN CLLR ANNE ROBERTS OBE and DEPUTY MAYOR OF RUTHIN CLLR JABEZ REDFERN OAKES JP along with Master of Ceremonies DAFYDD VAUGHAN.

Both MAYOR ROBERTS and DEPUTY MAYOR REDFERN OAKES congratulated BRENNAN on his win and ratified the win with publicly declaring him the RUTHIN BEAT THE CHAMPION! The ratification was signed off by British and European Wrestling Commissioner MARTY JONES, who was in attendance.
MAYOR ROBERTS wished BRENNAN luck for the remaining legs of the BEAT THE CHAMPION TOURNAMENT before thanking UNION WRESTLING for providing Ruthin with an excellent evening of wrestling with such "amazing athletes". MAYOR ROBERTS was further impressed by the high level of competition present at this wrestling event and couldn't wait to see it [Union Wrestling] return to Ruthin next month.
"SLIM" JIM BRENNAN was asked after his final match how he felt about his win, JIM said "I can't believe all the hard work has paid off to give me the win tonight. I'm so proud for being the first declared winner and I'm over the moon so many people turned out tonight to see my win. I'm very honored"
We then asked if he was looking forward to the second leg of his BEAT THE CHAMPION run "Yeah, definitely can't wait to see who the next guy is. When I come back to Ruthin on Saturday October 28th I hope I can put another win under my belt and another £200 in the prize purse." Talking about the prize purse "I've got 4 more opponents to beat in order to add another £800 to the purse before I can claim it. That seems like a lot, but in all fairness it'll be worth the effort to win that kind of money from using the skills I've trained hard for. I'm ready for the challenge and I'm ready for whomever I'm matched against next month." When asked about what the prize purse would be used for BRENNAN said "If I win the £1000 then I'll probably use most of it to treat my Mum and spoil her a bit. She's done so much for me and she's been so supportive, I'd want to use a first big win to say thank you to her. However, if I gamble the £1000 to double it on a final 6th opponent, well, with £2000 I might think about a little holiday in the sun as well."
